Dr Al Thani gained his medical qualification in 1993 from King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia before undertaking fellowships in hand, sport medicine/arthroscopy and joint reconstruction in Toronto, Canada. He achieved his FRCSC with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Canada, in 2004.

He is an expert in his field and delivers lectures at both national and international forums.
